JOHN Fenty insists Grimsby Town must move on quickly from yesterday's court case – which found that Boston United must be paid £21,410 over the appointment of managerial duo Rob Scott and Paul Hurst.
The judge, recorder Barnett, sitting at Sheffield County Court, ordered Grimsby Town, Scott and Hurst to pay a total of £10,400 in damages, £10,500 in costs and £510 in interest to Boston United.
The Pilgrims took Town to court almost exactly a year on from the March 23 appointment of Scott and Hurst as Mariners bosses – two days after they had resigned from York Street.
Recorder Barnett said Boston chairman David Newton gave evidence that could be "relied upon" but criticised Scott and Mr Fenty, acting on behalf of Grimsby Town, of casting a "severe cloud" over their evidence.
This was for refusing to name an agent who acted on behalf of Scott and Hurst in talks with the club. Recorder Barnett said this "undermined their credibility".
Town director Mr Fenty, who was at the time the club's chairman, told the Telegraph: "Naturally we are disappointed considering it is down to the decision of one man when all is said and done.
"He has a lot of information to digest and it clearly came down to the fact we didn't divulge the agent's name. In his words it left a cloud over the case and undermined our credibility.
"This was a black mark against us, but this is what we agreed to do.
"We said we wouldn't name the agent because he did not want his name brought out in this. We have stuck by our guns and we live and die on the back of that."
Mr Fenty, who said Town must also pay their own costs of around £10,000-£12,000, was critical of Mr Newton.
He said: "I think David Newton could have been fairer. We could have had genuine negotiations. He wasn't willing and he put conditions on the managers.
"They felt it was additional conditions over and above their written contract.
"Naturally any football club cannot afford bills of this sort, but we have to find the money and move on.
"We have absolutely no regrets about appointing Rob and Paul.
The club is going in the right direction and, in due course, we will forget this and go on to better things."
Grimsby Town will not be appealing the outcome.
