Title: Train to Matlock
Post by: Steviemas on November 29, 2009, 07:11:56 PM
Thinking of going on Train next weekend to the wonderfully named Geoquip stadium at Matlock, anyone  know if it's a walkable distance from the station to the ground or am i looking at hailing taxis?

It's right next door - pretty much straight over the road!

There's quite a few of us going by train

Cheers for that Pilgrim86, was thinking of catching the 09-50 getting there for 1-30, not sure yet have to look at the other times, but this should give me enough time for a few swift real ales if i can find a decent boozer. :P

Weatherspoons for lunch, there were quite a few of us in there last time, the locals looked quite perplexed as to what the hell was going on.

I worked the cost out to be around £23 return, but don't take that as gospel, looks like Weatherspoons then if nobody has a better shout.

There is no doubtable better options, but Wetherspoons was a small stumble to the ground and reliable so we took the easy option.  Guiness is usually ok no matter what the pub, so I'm not bothered about the ale.

There appears to be a half decent real ale pub just down the A6 from the station. It's called The Boat House and it used to operate as a brothel and a mortuary! It changed hands a year or so ago but still seems to be getting good reviews. Looks like a better option than the stuff served up at Weatherspoons.

Why slag off Weatherspoons Ken ..?
They' ve done a lot for real ale and decent pub facilities in the last 20 yrs
Beer , seating and toilets nearly always top - notch ..
So no need to get Bitter about them .. thought you were a Mild sort of chap ...

If you can travel with 3 mates, you can get it down to a tenner each. GroupSave Boston-Nottingham return, and GroupSave Nottingham-Matlock.

As the sort of  geek who looks at all the options for travel costs, (I have daughters who live in Spain and one in the US as well as the UK, so it often matters), the £23.50 option for the return fare does not seem to include the 5.45 return train which goes via lincoln.
If you buy two separate return tickets for the £23.50 option (both from Boston Station) one Boston to Nottingham (£12.70 I believe) and another from Nottingham to Matlock (£7.30) you save £2.50
