I don't think that if we beat Durham it will be a resounding confidence building exercise. It will be a hollow victory. Everyone else is wupping them. You have to give their players some credit for keeping going. Must be demoralising to keep getting thumped.

Thats just the point though. if it's demoralising for them, which as you correctly point out it must me, then surely by the same arguement, particuarly in consideration of the teams recent form, victory against anyone, has to be a confidence booster.
Within the same arguement, in reverse, if god forbid we dont win then morale would be dragging along the floor
A win is a win, and we badly need one. A good old fashioned thumping, regardless of opposition must lift everyones spirits, especially if done in style, both the team and the supporters

No?

There is no way we can lose, the odds, even allowing for the 'away team' factor would surely be around the 6/1, 8/1 ON

Even allowing for the fact tat we are not scoring it simply has to be between 3 and 5 - 0, otherwise you could see the first managerial casualties of the season?

It is impossib le for us to loose this game!!!!

I must agree it does look awful. I wonder if anyone told the keeper that he is allowed to move his feet, ffs he just appeared to stand there and watch the ball go sailing over him as he performed what can only be described as a slow motion backwards belly flop

If anything is guaranteed to  make the managers mind up whether or not young to change the custodian for Saturday, that is it

Logically the only players that may be parting company are those without a contract. Particuarly in this current climate, the club cannot afford to pay up the contracts of anyone, which will have to happen, unless some mutual agreement can be made
Not only that if the managers wanted to let a contracted player it would be a pretty damning verdict of their judgement wouldn't it?
It would be like admitting they signed shite players, cant see that happening at all.

Who will be leaving?

Look to the non contracted players first, thats for sure. The question is who is and who isn't on contracts?

I only hear how your game has gone by a mate of mine who is a loyal Boston fan your problem seem's to be a natural goalscorer he mentioned your missing Ricky Miller i could be wrong here.

well last week RS was on about the 'spark' we need too get our season back up and running in either the target/standard

and as its been mentioned alot on here about we need a goalscorer because none of ours seem prolifc enough

ricky definatley added a ' spark ' to that shower of shit last season even if only for the final month or so

and he imo had a knack of behind in the right place at the right time i.e hednesford away

i wouldn't say the reason we aint scoring is because we didn't keep him but i think we could do with a similar kinda player

Regardless of whether we miss the lad or not, if the managers, as came to light in the summer didn't speak to him then, I wouldn't have thought there is a cat in hells chance of them doing so now

Anyway, all such thoughts will be dispelled when we knock in 4,5 or 6 goals Saturday and we go a couple of points behind the play off positions, and that is all it takes, knock in a good few against Durham, (everybody else does) and hopefully the confidence will come flooding back

I feel sorry for players like Clarke, and Cotton, who like a couple of others appears to be viewd a bit expediently by the management when it comes to the 'who to drop' question.
Cant question his work rate, but as someone touched on a few posts ago, when confidence is low, especially for keepers and forwards and the pressure of not knowing if when and for how long you're going to be on the pitch as keepers ponder when to come and when to stay, so too do forwards when to shoot and when to take an extra touch , and they end up doing neither

I would be tempted to give the boy at least three games on the pitch, decide on who his partner will be and see what happens. Starting with the whipping  boys saturday, for surely whoever plays up front is going to gain some confidence when the ball hits the back of the net

For the future?

Without a doubt, pick two biggies and bring in a small one to play with one of them, or for that matter bring in two small ones. Two biggies as is clearly proven thus far, very rarely works, and it certainly doesn't for us at the moment

Totally agree, crticisms of players will always happen, and if justified said players have to take it. Its all aprt and parcel

Criticism of young players however will do nothing but erode any confidence they might have. It's illogical, senseless and self defeating. We have had a few youngsters recently, most notably Butcher, who imo along with a couple of others, kept us in this league his performances with one exception were stunning for an 18 year old, especially an 18 year old keeper who is understandably under even pressure than outfield players,  yet with the shortest of memories I remember one mistimed kick in a pres season friendly and he got roasted.

Am not saying it was those critics which cost him his place, but if he has to come in tomorrow, or next week or whenever, how much pressure would criticism put him under?

The same applies here, youngsters have to  be supported, and yes certain ( not many ) allowances made, because even though they might have appeared on the pitch unexpectedly or before planned, who knows, as someone pointed out, we might be forced into playing them and they shouldnt have to take to the pitch with previous slatings, either from the stands or on the forums on their mind

did anyone else here the man in the 'Fantasy Island' stand slating Ellie all the time saying he was crap when he was at the club?

So he was crap when he helped us stay up last year?
I bet if Ellie was still at the club then that man wouldn't say that

I heard several calling Ellie which IMO is disappointing as he has been fantastic for us in the past, but Ellie being Ellie gave as good as he got.

If that was the case then it was as disapointing as the result. Thinking about it probably even more so. If it wasn't for him a couple of others back end of last season it is arguable whether or not the club would be featuring in this fixture at all

Shame on any supporter who resorted to such comments

I have to say, after last season I am left wondering who would actually sign him. I hope thats not being insulting to him, but to say his best days are behind him would be stretching kindness to the limits i'm afraid

But hey good luck wherever he ends up

I cant see any upset here. Such a result will not only see daggers coming out from everywhere, it could seriously damage team moral & confidence not to mention uprising from the stands

No, no, no, it cant happen, 4-1

Now that could start a fascinating debate, two biggies? One biggie and a lillt'un? or two little'uns?

Apart from Drogba and Anelka, (who didn't play too  much together last year) two great six foot players but hardly the stereotype lummox of a centre forward most biggies get labelled with

In years gone by we had, and just to start with a few
Toshack & Keegan
Greaves & Gilzean
Smith & Wright

Currently we have.....
Adebayor and Tevez/Robinho
Crouch & Defoe
Berbatov & Rooney

There is no doubt about it that over the last few years, there has been an explosion of smaller nippy strikers, Johnson, Cole, Owen, Defoe, Rooney, Eduardo, Torres, keane, Tevez, Robinho and the like, backed up by a posse of sprinters ETO, Henry, Anelka and the like

the biggies seem to find refuge at those teams with a reputation for shall we say direct up and at them style, and for evidence examine the front men of Bolton, Blackburn, Stoke, Birmingham, Sunderland and the likes

Not that it means bugger all for us, but a fascinating point that could take up many hours in pubs and coach trips travelling to games thats for sure

For me? One biggie one and one little'un

Isn't that the greatest thing about football, the diversity in opinions are staggering even in this one page. On the one hand Suarez just doesn't look up to the job and on the other hes played really well

Dont you just love it? ;D

Rumours in the "town" are that £70k a year made him really interested.

I cant see that. A man of his calibre is obviously going to command a good few quid, but thats the kind of money managers in league one and some probably in the championship are getting

Wasn't it in the papers, even allowing for some distortion, that  Campbells wages in a week, or was it a fortnight was more than the managers yearly wage

I would have thought half of that amount would have enticed the 'little' man into Lincolnshire

Dont like getting ahead of myself, but lets say we give them a battering, though a 1-0 win will do, then with a good draw, we are but a few games away from say Leeds at home! ;D

Surely a game for TV if ever there was one, and how much could that generate?

cold bath time, before I start thinking of wembley ;D
