Haystead Returns
« on: May 16, 2012, 02:59:42 PM »
Never did anything wrong on the pitch when here last time. Maybe JL went for Bazza last season as Haystead wasn't garunteed to befit for the start of the season. Only expect another  4 or 5 maximum if the rest offered deals sign this week.

Did well for us last time after a dodgy start.

Some won't be happy as we have signed a former player, but IMO we should have kept him last season.

better than  bazza Pete, but previous players very rarely come back and do very well. I feel its going to be similar to last year, few contacts, old players, very little to excite us yet. Still not enough for me to fork out 135 quid yet

Dt maybe the reason why you are so negative about JL's contacts is because he played his entire career all at Notts Forrest and never really played in a variety of leagues at all levels, oh wait a minute..

Name a non-league manager with more contacts than Lee dt .
What exactly is your definition of "contacts"?

Ian Ross has been a fantastic signing admittedly he played for us before but in football terms it was along time ago. Stainsfield and Milnes grew into decent players as the season went on and cut be very good players at this level if they continue to progress next season. Unlike S and H JL has shown he understands the value of the youth and reserves and has a good eye for players able to progress which has already paid didvidends with some fantastic performances from both Ward and Reed. after an almost impossible pre season last season with  most of the top players already chosen to leave and the management appointments done a long while after the season finished this coming season is JL's opportunity to prove his ability, hopefully he will as this club should not finish mid table in this league.

Jason played for several clubs (6 just in the time between his spells here)! The club he played for most was Lincoln...

I watched Haystead in what now turns out to have been his final appearance for Hinckley, in the Westerby Cup Final against Loughborough Dynamo. (The Westerby Cup is effectively Leicestershire's County Cup, which has secured a sponsorship deal). Match report here ...

http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/loughboroughdynamo/s/match-report-25576.html?official=0&fixture_id=1131337

The report clearly blames Haystead for Loughborough's first goal, stating that he dropped the ball at the feet of one of the Loughborough players. That isn't quite how I remember the goal, and it certainly wasn't an error to the same extent as Bazza dropping the ball in the first minute at Hyde.

Loughborough's winner came in the second half of extra time. As the report says, Haystead blocked the first effort but was beaten by the rebound. The initial block was a very good save from a one-on-one situation, and deserves a bit more credit than this match report gives it.

Couple of other facts and suggestions ...

(1) yes, it is the ex-Pilgrim striker Jamie Clarke in the Loughborough line-up. Didn't score on the night, but did score 21 goals for Dynamo over the course of the season.

(2) When he was introduced as a substitute at the start of the second-half, Hinckley's winger Tom Byrne did have a substantial influence on the game. He stretched play and created a lot of chances, and it was only some woeful finishing from the Hinckley strikers that prevented them from winning the match in normal time. When it comes to making additional signings, we shouldn't touch any of the Hinckley strikers with a barge pole. But Byrne looks to good to be going down with Hinckley, and might be worth a look. He's 22 and previously played for Kidderminster Harriers and his home town team Quorn.

(3) Why can't the Lincolnshire FA leave their county cup finals until after the end of the league season? Both Hinckley and Loughborough fielded their strongest sides, which made for an entertaining game. But the Lincolnshire approach always seems to diminish the competition and clubs end up picking fringe and reserve players to avoid picking up injuries for their league matches. Having watched both competitions this year, it feels like Leicestershire do things better than Lincolnshire.

Dear Mr Newell
It's Nottingham Forest and Notts County.
The locals are very touchy about this.

Also Big Jase played at Mansfield Town last week.

Good signing.
It did very well at York Street, and without that injury he could have been a key-player for us.
