The B-Ark / Re: Costs of running a non-league football club
« on: April 21, 2012, 05:46:11 PM »
To be fair recent gates of over 1000 does suggest the fans are standing by the club and chairman when the season is already well and truly over.

Few doubt the Chairman's commitment, or the fact that we have budget limitations.

The issue is the comparative budgets. Would love to know how our budget stands up to others in the league, yes we have more fans, but equally we have higher rent and more full time staff.
Be interesting to see how the budgets pan out...

The B-Ark / A test for a team ....
« on: April 21, 2012, 05:41:57 PM »
... is when there is nothing to play mid way through the season.

In some ways this a real test for a team: a test of their commitment; their professionalism; their ability to self motivate - or the management's ability to motivate.

If there is substance to this argument then we have an issue.
Since January we have Won 6, Drawn 4 and Lost 10 a total of 22 points from a possible 60.

So with a reduced budget, same manager and some of the same managers optimism abounds?

Or perhaps what is past is past and we start afresh in August with every opportunity to get promoted.

 ???

Frankly everyone has the right to buy a season ticket or not, attend one match or none!

Let's not go down the road of what makes a true supporter or not. People support in different ways and according to their own beliefs and financial situation, please respect each individual's right to support how (s)he wants.

The bigger issue is the short term vs the longer term.
The owners are building a club for the long term, with the building of the new ground a huge undertaking on all fronts.
In the meantime many supporters look shorter term and some of those deem that some of the games they have had to endure do not merit the entrance fee, be that season ticket or weekly at the turnstile.
Football is a combination of loyalty (sometimes misplaced), habit, emotion and entertainment. When the latter is highlighted by the fan questions are asked of players and management and the conclusion can be reduced attendance as BUFC have witnessed this season.
I fear that without a good start next season the attendance could drop further.

Am sure Newton and Kempster wish everyone to be looking at the bigger picture and financially supporting the club to the max to help reach the end goal in x years time, but when a crock of **it is served up under the guise of football on a wet and cold January evening it does not always adhere the supporter to the long term aim!

Implement and enforce the % of wages quota.

Rugby union and league have a club salary cap, so do US professional sports.

The B-Ark / The conundrum of football ..

And so the great conundrum of football financing faces BUFC.

Attendance down by 25% - due to economic situation & an average team = less budget.
(Though I suspect the economic situation applies less when a team is winning and more when is losing)

Less budget for 2012/13 = less than average team = attendance down further?

This is the conundrum of football, there is no right and wrong in many ways.
Leeds tried the gamble, threw money at it to get into the champions league, and it right royally blew up in their faces.
Spurs throw money at Redknapp and he may recoup some of it with Champions League qualification.

My instinct is that throwing money at the club without a guarantee to recoup it is - without a benefactor - a short ride to oblivion, lots of obvious cases come to mind.

Until the football authorities - at all levels - get a handle on the situation many more clubs will suffer as they take the gamble. Simply financial rules based on income and amount spent on wages etc that are strictly enforced is the only way forward. When will the FA and Premier League take the long view and sort it out.

'Fit and proper test' is easy. Give the chairman a sheepskin coat and cigar, stand him in a used car lot in Southend and ask a hundred punters if they would buy a Ford Focus from that man -  simple!

For BUFC with another decline in budget, much now rests on JL shoulders to find quality players cheaply or to be able to bring out the best in average players and young players - a true sign of a quality manager.

Much is said about the budget of BUFC and other clubs.

How much do BUFC pay their players compared to others in the league?

Are GT really paying considerably more than us?

Boston's biggest problem I would suspect - with part time players - is its location, rather than pay.

And why on a tight budget do we persist with two managers for the second year running?

I think on the whole the fans have backed the club. To be getting the attendances we have this season has surprised me, as we have never threatened to a serious play-off contender.

Sponsor uptake is generally very good for town of its size and in the current economic climate.

I do not think any fan underestimates the financial/logistical/moral support that Newton and Kempster have given to our club, but if the fare served up is tosh then fans will vote with their feet.

Obviously no surprise, but what a thoroughly unpleasant person.

I see from their forum, opinion is already divided over the new Evans era they are about to embark on.

How do the budgets of S & H compare to L & C?

For a club on a tight budget how come we keep having joint managers?

Not sure about them ..... can go or stay

FACT: he is a convicted criminal

FACT: touchline bans are a way of life for him

FACT: he is one of the most hated managers in the football - by fans and officials from every club up and down the country

FACT: he is a bully along with his 'scout'

FACT: is has not achieved without a serious budget behind him

FACT: he is a convicted criminal (did I mention that)

FACT: if I broke into the HM Tax office and stole £300K I'd be doing serious time
FACT: 'white collar' crime does pay  :bunny

Rebuilding suggests that the building is here to stay.

BUFC and this level in particular is more port-a-cabin in nature than bricks and mortar.

The turnover in players is very high, teams are very much season by season. There is no rebuilding more of a
complete new build each year.
