Where did you pull that one from Albert?!!!!!

Don't tell me you've got the programme.......... ;)
Sadly I don't have the programme. For some reason, I just vaguely remember looking at the 71-72 fixture lists in that season's programme and thinking it strange that a second leg was listed without a first leg. The home programme prior to the game, Kirkby on 29 January, mentions the game and that it has been moved from 31st January to 2nd February but the next home programme, Netherfield on 12 February, only lists the result with no further detail.

It will not surprise you to learn that there is such a rule, fortunately the manager is exempt.

Quote
8.22.6 All occupants of the technical area must wear the official sponsor’s bench kit supplied to each Member Club. Failure to wear the bench kit will result in a fine in accordance with the fines tariff. The only exception will be the Team Manager who will be allowed to wear suits and overcoats not displaying any sponsorship logos.

They get very well paid for it and are consistently crap, but that MUST be the FAs problem, they are responsible for selecting and licensing the clowns. I think there is just one thing the fa tell them to do and that is KEEP SMILING and draw the money.
Do they get "very well paid for it"? I can't find the fees for the Conference North but I can for the FA Cup and FA Trophy (in 2012/13). So, last weeks referee got about £50.

Match fees for officials in the FA Cup (2012/13):

(i) The Qualifying Competition: Extra Preliminary, Preliminary and First Rounds:
Referee, £40.00; Assistant Referees, £20.00 each
(ii) The Qualifying Competition: Second and Third Round:
Referee, £50.00; Assistant Referees, £30.00 each
(iii) The Qualifying Competition: Fourth Round:
Referee, £90.00; Assistant Referees, £45.00 each, Fourth Official, £30.00
(iv) The Competition Proper: First and Second Rounds:
Referee, £310.00; Assistant Referees, £155.00 each, Fourth Official, £80.00*
(*£145 if National List Referee appointed)
(v) The Competition Proper: Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Rounds:
Referee, £375.00; Assistant Referees, £375.00 each; Fourth Official, £320.00
(vi) Semi-Final Ties:
Referee, £375.00; Assistant Referees, £375.00, Fourth Official, £320.00
(vii) Final Tie:
Referee, £375.00; Assistant Referees, £375.00 each; Fourth Official, £320.00
and a Souvenir Medal each.

Match fees for the FA Trophy (2012/13):

(i) First, Second and Third Rounds Qualifying:
Referee: £50.00, Assistant Referees £30.00, Fourth Official 30.00 (where FA appointed)
(ii) First, Second, Third and Fourth Rounds Proper:
Referee: £80.00, Assistant Referees £40.00 each, Fourth Official £40.00
(iii) Semi-Finals:
Referee: £100.00, Assistant Referees £50.00 each, Fourth Official £50.00
(v) Final:
Referee: £200, Assistant Referees £100.00, Fourth Official £100.00 and a Souvenir Medal each

Why is he only looking at the ground now (recently)? Why not a few years ago? You could have been in a new ground by now...

Swann took over in December 2008 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/7797517.stm ). Announcements about potential new grounds and offers to buy the Northolme have been pretty much going on from that time; see this article from November 2009 for example

Stokes has joined AFC Telford United.
I'm guessing Graham Hyde rated him highly then.

Simpkins also played as an emergency centre forward five times for Hartlepool United, scoring the winner in a 3-2 victory against Port Vale on November 18 1967.

There's a bit about his life, including his Boston career, from this article here:

In SWD we have a player that couldn't cut it at Telford and struggled to get games on loan at Buxton.  Don't believe the stats.
He scored in every game he played for Buxton.

Beyond any arguments about the specialist nature of the position, there's a far greater pool of outfield players (obviously, at least ten times as many).

I do wonder if we shot ourselves in the foot though by simply releasing him. If we had gone through the motions and offered him a contract which he had then turned down, wouldn't we now be taking his new club Barrow to a tribunal for a compensation payment?

If he was non-contract then no.

It would be a shame to lose all the archive material on the previous site.

I'd be interested to know his complete record at senior level, remember he was at Fisher (always loved the red card reaction v Barnet) and Kettering before joining us, and then he has that 6 or 7 season stint at St Albans.

Thinking about it he must be getting close to 1000 senior games now.

Seriously enjoy him while he's about, we'll never see the likes of him again.

He's over 1000 senior games as here are a further 357 appearances (not complete for Fisher and Kettering and possibly Dagenham).

13 at Cambridge United
1 at Bath City (http://www.ilovebathcity.com/pastplayers_b.htm )
28 conference appearances at Fisher
29 conference appearances at Kettering Town
260 at St Albans City (http://www.sacfc.co.uk/tpl/player.php?id=216 )
25 at Rushden (http://www.thediamondsfc.com/page/A-ZofDiamonds/0,,10784~1253122,00.html )
at least 1 at Dagenham

I'm also missing a few games from my archives such as 3 Eastern Professional Floodlit League games in 1970/1 and 2 Boston & District League games in 1964/5.
Here's one of the results you are missing:

Wednesday 21st April 1971 H E KING'S LYNN 1-1

See: http://www.thelinnets.co.uk/archive/archiveresults.php?s=1970-71
which will also give you the attendance of the previous weeks' game.
