Yes, it certainly evoked some great memories. It stands out in my mind, naturally, because of the two very late goals to give us the draw. And how that one point gained from the jaws of defeat in September proved to be so crucial at the end of the season.
It was also one of those many regular occasions when I took a ‘half-day holiday’ off work to be able to drive over to Boston from Kearsley to attend home midweek matches. Then driving back after the game I’d be home no later than 1.00a.m.
But I also remember that day for listening to a fairly lengthy radio interview with Steve Evans as I was driving to Boston. He was being asked about Doncaster having signed Justin Jackson from Rushden & Diamonds for £150,000 – and who was being thought at the time as being the ‘icing-on-the-cake’ that would propel Rovers to promotion. Jackson had starred upfront with Duane Darby in Diamonds’ promotion-winning season the season before, but I remember his move to Donny was subsequently somewhat of a flop. After just checking now, the stats show he only scored 5 goals in 39 appearances.
But the most sobering thought that springs to mind is that this memorable game was almost 19 years ago!!
