Title: v Gainsborough tonight.
Post by: Ernie100 on November 21, 2017, 06:17:44 PM
I was beginning to think tonight's game had been postponed there's so little about it on here.   Come on lads get us a Trophy tonight to lift the mood of the camp.

I agree Ernie we need a boost at the moment, would be nice to win something and get one over on our local rival's.
Come on you Pilgrim's.

Only 3 subs and no Rollins tonight or Wakefield.
Rollins has already played for Grimsby in this year's competition. Whilst on trial there, he came on as a second half sub in their 4-0 win over Scunny back in July.

Who would have thought both Hemmings and Thompson failed to convert or was the difference due to the goalies.

Didn't intend going tonight but changed my mind and to be honest am glad I did. A slow start by both teams the Trinity goal was again avoidable proving we really do need a good big central defender Beatson is not the answer. Our equaliser was a very good goal, Waite who had a poor start ran across the pitch to win the ball back and it was played forward on the floor through several players eventually landing at the feet of Thomson and the new center forward with not much to aim at scored beautifully with the outside of his right boot, excellent. Have to say their second goal was a beauty across our keeper into the far bottom corner. The lads kept their heads up and Hemmings did what he seems to avoid doing if possible and what he should do more often, took on the left back and chipped in a lovely cross which the new "Dale" powered in with his head, sweet as a nut. With the very last kick of normal time Hemmings chipped Ravas but he just got a finger tip to it over the bar. Forget the penalties this was all about the manager giving them a chance to prove themselves and in my opinion our new striker did just that, fans are going to love him. After a slow start Waite got stuck in and did himself no harm. I think if Jay had been available he would probably made the difference. All in all this game has been good for Craig in assessing the present squad and for me that is what it was all about.

We played like we did when AM was in charge, especially in the first half - occasional flashes of good play, but still slow to the ball, reactive instead of proactive, hoofball with inaccurate passing, sloppy in defence and not enough team play. I note that Craig didn't get out of the dressing room in time for an interview on the Radio Lincs evening sports show...I don't know which players need the stick, and which need a carrot, but I think a plentiful supply of each will be needed!

Only 3 subs and no Rollins tonight or Wakefield.

Looks as if Sam Muggleton has gone back to York City and Liam Wakefield is injured.  Brad McGowan don't know about.

I think it is fair to say 3 were rejects , two of the others were well regarded players in their short stay and the other a loyal reliable servant in his time with us .

Don't get the tinpot bit,  although when referring to GTFC quite a few use it .
I guess our friend Steeli will soon be on to agree/disagree with my comments .  The Northolme when compared to most lower non-league grounds is a plus for the club .
Never been relegated .
Non loss making .
Freehold of the ground
I can't recall the above three being applicable to our club over the last 50 years .

I seriously think when the time comes that DN hands over the club to the fans we could learn a few lessons from them .

When was the last competitive match we won on penalties? League, FA Cup, FA Trophy.

possibly a few seasons back. We beat Stamford in the Lincs Cup on pens. Stamford included 2 subs well known to us that day, Gregg Smith and Ricky Miller.

Looked good going forwards but dreadful at the back. Long balls over the top and set plays were were getting totally done at the back stick
Thompson was very impressive on the right wing for us. But hell do well to have an easier opponent than Stainfield, who got rinced all night

Can't recall details Dave but I am sure you will give the us facts , guessing I would say some basket case club going bust mid season .  Still credit due to them.  In fairness maybe Blues fans and football people nationwide will claim that we only scraped into the football league by the geriatric speed at which the FA dealt with Mr Beans investigation .

Don’t know Pete thought I had read somewhere they escaped relegation due to others misfortune/mismanagement. Maybe Steeli can fill us in.
