World Cup and BUFC
« on: June 02, 2014, 05:16:07 PM »
With Rickie Lambert on the plane to Brazil, it got me thinking whether there has ever been another player that has played in a World Cup and also been involved in a match with Boston United?

Lambert played for Brizzle Rovers when we were in League 2.

Leo Bertos played for in the last World Cup for New Zealand. He had previously played against us for Rochdale.

I know this because I used to set a football quiz every year and there was always a Boston United question (which nobody ever got) - that year Bertos was the answer.

Didn't Joe Hart also play against us a few years back for Shrewsbury?

Did Gazza play in the World Cup? Does the Pope take a folded newspaper into the woods?

One player who did not actually play in the World Cup, but was in the 1970 squad that went to Mexico: Alex Stepney. He played at York Street for Altrincham.

Mark Wright must've managed at York Street. Tony Adams did - was he at France 98?

And Ben Foster was in goal when Andy Kirk got that hat trick at Kidderminster...
