To be fair to him I always understood him to be saying only if I'm part-time do I need to be based in London. But he was also clear he would choose full-time football over his financial career in the short term, and I'd assume a full-time contract would pay well enough for him not to have to worry living back at home.

And since they've already managed him twice I guessed S and H would be keen. Good luck to him and Pearson and thanks for what they did - we're a whole lot better off than we were when they arrived...

Footballer in not being 100% honest with the fans shocker......

He did a very good job for us, but like Pearson I'm really disappointed with his choice of club, both could have done far better than they have done, even if they had a good relationship with the managers.

I do think Grimsby will have a good season with their signings to date but they really aren't the club they were a decade or so ago, to me they are smaller than Lincoln now and when the likes of Doncaster have overtaken them it tells you a lot about the club and how its been run, perhaps H&S will turn it round but all I see is a club in steady decline.

Another York or Cambridge.

Living in the Grimsby area, there is no where near as much apathy towards the club as there is in Lincoln.  Grimsby Town are still at large in the community here.  You very rarely see any sign of the Imps in and around Lincoln.  If they can get a good start then the locals will back them loudly and in numbers.

Yeah I'm not saying that the town has turned its back on the club, more that its a club in steady decline. If Lincoln aren't careful they'll be in the same boat as York,Mansfield and Cambridge, if ever a club needed to get off to a flyer next term its The Imps or they'll be stuck down here years.

Sean Pearson and Anthony Church, either one of them could have been my players of the season, to me they were the backbone of the success we have experienced over the past couple of years. I completely understood and respected their decisions to move on, in my opinion both were capable, and deserved, to be playing at a higher level receiving wages commensurate with their ability. For what it was worth they left Boston with my thanks for a job well done and best wishes for the future.

Can somebody explain to me why I now feel a sense of betrayal?

He only said he would return to London if he couldnt find full-time footie, so I understand his reasonings behind it.

If only S&H had just left amicably at the end of the season (the right and sensible thing to do) then there wouldnt be this annoyance, court cases etc.

sense of betrayal?

Shorty and Shouty (CodAlmightyTM) are the reason behind it all.  They way they behaved was disgusting and the indication that they hinted they'd be back for a few of our players at the end of the year fuels that disgust.  I'll pop along to support Churchy, Pearson, McKeown and possibly SWD.  But the managers can do one as far as I'm concerned.

I say good luck to them and i hope they make a very good living out of football.
I'd say if we were going full time the club would have pushed the boat out money wise to have kept them both here. We can't afford to go full time, so off they go. Like others on here i do think either of them could have done better for themselves but S&H know them and they know S&H.

There will be people who say they are wrong to leave, call them Judas, say they conned the club and the fans. I say rubbish, if you look at it another way you will understand. Both of them were 'part time workers' 'casual workers' They have been offered a 'full  time job' if i was only employed as a casual worker and someone offered me a full time job, more money, security, i'd take that thank you very much.

So lets not let them go on a sour note, lets be pleased for them, wish them well in their new adventure.

The term Judas surely doesn't apply to any player who takes up an opportunity to progress to a higher-level? Surely it only applies to those players who jump ships to a comparable or lesser club but for solely financial reasons. Those players clearly aren't in the game to try and better themselves.

Good luck to Shaun Pearson and Anthony Church. Hope they are welcomed back to Boston as legends one day. Jamie Yates, on the other hand .....

Good luck to them, supporters are quick enough to want players out who they consider to be crap ,so lets move on wish them luck and get behind the players who want to play for our shirt. No doubt in afew days time we will have equal if not better players to shout for.

Good luck to S&H and the players (including Jamie Mac )  .  Will be interesting in a couple of years time to see how Mr Fenty takes it if they all move on in similar curcumstances on free transfers.
Also good luck to Jamie Yates ,  if we were offered silly money I think most of us would have done the same.

I think a lot of Boston fans are in danger of completely losing the plot to the whole Grimsby situation.

While I think David Newton is quite right to try and get compensation for Scott and Hurst (it's his job to do the best for the club), I actually don't think either of them did anything wrong. They resigned their posts  to go to a  better job - remember they were being offered full-time football, the one thing we couldn't offer them.

As for Church, he was very clear - he wanted to either go full-time (which he has now done) or if he couldn't go down south and get a part-time club and/or a new job out of football. The point he made about not wanting the travelling was as it would be part-time with Boston.

Personally I wish Scott/Hurst/Pearson/Church all the best - and am pleased we have played a part in the careers of people (particularly the managers) who are likely to go much higher.

The 'legends' thing is all a bit of a gimmick though isn't it.......I mean probably 8 out of every 10 were decent lads but never legends and lets be honest here none of the current crop can be classed as legends after 2 seasons!

Legends wear the shirt for 4 or 5 plus seasons like Tex Hardy, John McKenna, Cookie, Baz and re,ain fans favourites long after they've left the club.

Really they ought to rename the slot Pilgrims Personalities.....

And you're right LP, if Yeates ever gets asked back as a legend we may as well start taking random blokes off the Townend and parade them as legends!

Not sure that legend status is necessarily linked to length of service. True, if you've stayed with the club for a long period of time then you're more likely to be remembered, but equally lots of players have made a positive contribution over a shorter period of time. Players who have been leading goalscorers, player-of-the-year, or been part of a Championship winning squad should always be welcomed back - even if they were only with the club for one or two seasons. Shaun Pearson deserves to be invited back at some stage as a half-time legend on the basis of being the only player to defend a player-of-the-year award. Additionally, who was the last defender to reach double figures in a season for goals scored (one for Ken?)? Church equally would receive a good reception from fans looking back on two years of commitment and effort with the highlight for him being a memorable Sunday afternoon in Bradford.

Admittedly a minority of the players who have come back have stretched the term "legend" to the very limit. David Cutts (10-appearances in 1994) springs to mind. The only thing I can remember about his playing days was when he got sent off in an FA Cup horror defeat at Heybridge Swifts. At least I think it was him. I'm sure I'll be corrected if it wasn't. The bulk of the players who have come back though have been well thought off and welcome additions to the half-time schedule. Keep 'em coming throughout 2011-12!

Post by: Burton Pilgrim on July 03, 2011, 01:29:36 PM
You're right - it was Cutts who was sent off at Heybridge, and that's the only thing anyone can remember about him.  I think he was one of the early 'legends' and I can only assume he was a last minute replacement because a real legend couldn't make it!
It'd be nice to see a few of the Wembley team as legends - Brian Thomson, Dave Gilbert, Bob Lee, Ged Creane etc.

No. I think Thommo was set to come but had to pull out because of other commitments. Both would be popular choices.

The full list of players we have had is:
