hi all
whilst settling down for a fantastic sunday lunch prepared by my lovely wife i turned to my friend and asked him how many past/present footballers of boston united have played a competitive premier league/old division one game for another club either before or after their time with boston
needless to sya our list wasn't very long but here's what we cam up with so far
jason lee

Devon White played for QPR in the Premier League. I think he was the first former Boston player to appear in the FA Premier League.
Andy Turner played for Spurs and Graham Potter for Southampton. Richie Ryan may have played for Sunderland.
Steve Thompson played for Charlton Atheltic. I think they were in the top flight at the time, but haven't checked this.
-
Neil Thompson?
-
Fred Tunstall
Charlie Withers
-
i know these were only loanees but...

Who can forget Andy Marriott!

Birmingham I think? At White Hart Lane, allowing Robbie Keane to steal it off him...
-
Jon Stevenson

Out of all these " greats " can someone put together a dream team?
-
Gordon Bolland
Mike Pinner
Lawrie Madden
The names so far seem to be mainly "has-beens" on the way down, not very many progressed upwards from Boston.
-
David Rennie
Stuart Balmer
Gary Porter
Lee Power
-
Norris to Bolton would be a good example of a player going up. Cannoville also played one game for Arsenal
-
There was the mid 1980s Notts County contingent:-
- Ray O'Brien
- Paul Hooks
- Pedro Richards
Arthur Mann was there as well, but I don't he think he was part of their squad when he was in the top division. But he may have played top flight for Manchester City?
-
what about our local fundraiser extraordinaire.....Bob Lee???
And yes there does seem to be a message here that we have not traditionally nurtured yoof and sold them on. Anyone who has been any good has gone off to the likes of Leicester at a young age. Perhaps now with a yoof set up things can be different. Of course for many years it was simply the 1st team only.

Cocky Robinson, Boston to Chelsea or was he kidding me?

Michael Robinson went to Chelsea at the same time as Gordon Bolland. However unlike Bolland who got a couple of games for Chelsea before moving on I don't think Michael Robinson ever turned out for their first team. See the Classic Game against Chelsea (http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/C140360.html) for details.

Darren Williams played for us last season on loan from Gainsborough. He played for Sunderland in the Premier League in 1999/2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999%E2%80%932000_Sunderland_A.F.C._season)
