Just goes to show what a justice system we have got when life means six years with a nice little earner included as a bonus.

It beggars belief what is in store if "hug an hoody" gets in power.

Absolute disgrace . Apart from making local females feeling insecure it is also deprieving a honest local person of a job.  Anyway why should this chap be deprieved of  the joys of prison such as Sky Sports , etc  etc etc .

Do you think inciting a violent crime should also not receive a namby pamby jail sentence?

It appears to me that we have a legal point here. The guy was sentenced to serve a minimum of six years. You may wish to debate whether that was a correct sentence for the crime, but that was the court's decision. Once he had served that part of his sentence, he was eligible for review. We are now a further four years on and he is not yet on parole, but is serving more time in an open prison. They are rehabilitating him in the way that the system is designed. It is to be assumed that he will be on the sex offenders register and will therefore be monitored for the foreeable future. If you do not agree with this route back into the community, then you must suggest an alternative. As I have said, you may not agree with the original sentence, but that's the way it is.

Media always jump on the individual but as mentioned its the system which is at work not a one off.

Interesting that if he or any other individual put in jail would then presumably get told by hacks at the Sun et al that they should be out doing manual labour not sat watching Jeremy Kyle.....

I am relieved that the latest postings have been more balanced on such a sensitive subject. I would not wish to detract from the severity of this man's crime nor the long-term effects on the victim and her family. The scars will remain forever but...............the justice system will include both punitive and rehabilitation. It is important that crime is punished but at the same time an offender is provided with opportunity to be rehabilitated into society after a period of incarceration.

The Sun, with its right-wing philosophy, would have and encourages society to embrace its right-wing views with a 'lock 'em up and throw the key away' mentality. The need is to discover why it is that certain crimes are committed and having identified the reasons for those issues to be addressed. The prisoner in question is now deemed to be a Minimum Security prisoner with society not at risk. Very careful considerations are given before releasing prisoners into the community with various professionals involved in the decision-making process.

North Sea Camp is a Minimum Security Prison where very great care is taken in ensuring that both the community is protected and the individual prisoner is provided with the opportunity to get his life back on track and make a full return to society where he can make a valuable contribution to the community.

Sadly as many of us have found to our cost this system has brought great saddness and pain to many on their release R R.  Many are habitual offenders and have no intention of altering their way of life.
