Hi all just a bit of fun here, who do you all think will be retained
We could do it like this
Nailed on stayers
Leavers
Probables
-
There's a risk that players will read this type of thread and it could be counter-productive. Who could blame a player from not wanting to give his all for the club if he was aware that supporters wanted rid of him? Equally, if a player is an idol on the terraces then there's a risk he'll enter his comfort zone and not try as hard over the remaining matches. However you look at it, this type of thread can never be "just a bit of fun".
All of the players have got seven matches to prove to the manager that they're worth retaining for next season. Message to the players should be to go out there and prove their worth. Then we can resurrect this discussion in early May.

Agreed YSP

Perhaps we could do the same but for posters on this forum :-)

Now that would be productive! ;D

Another related question from me. Who, if any, of those players out on loan will be back with us next season?

Would be a shame if Harry Vince isn't given a chance to come back.

Totally agree Lee, he should be given the chance to show what he has learnt from his spell away.
Liam Adams also.

I think Young Vinno could make it at conference/league 2 level. What is he 18 yrs old. England call up. His full debut at Halifax last season was just an incredible performance against a good side who went up. Harry ran the show & showcased his 17 yr old talent.
It's worth noting that coinciding with Vinnos first team selection was/has been such a turbulent phase of abject averageness that is only being addressed by Mr Elliot at present. Would love to see Harry in a CE first 11 next season. He's a fantastic talent. Pocket rocket. He could be our Kante; even date I say Roy Keane? No go for Billy Brenner/ Alan Ball.
-
Adams has scored a lot of goals for Stamford and I'd consider him alongside Vince and maybe Yeomans as the three I would consider bringing back. Even if they're not ready for our first team yet, we ought to right now be talking to clubs in the league below and seeing if any of them wanted these players on a potential three-month / long-term loan from the beginning of next season. Best of both worlds; we retain young players; young players get first team experience with other teams paying their wages; we can then call them back if and when they make the grade. We might even consider the same approach with someone like Tshimanga who probably hasn't had the game time this year he would have liked.
I think we've seen the last of Waite, Broadhead, Beatson, Walker and Bennett.

Which keeper would people keep if it was a choice of just one?
Personally I think Willis
-
Don’t think it will be a choice of just one, think they will both be gone. IMO C E will want no less than playoffs next season so will be looking for a proven keeper at the very least. Don’t think either of the keepers will want to stay if not in 1st eleven.
-
I agree Tash.

Clemence for me. Shilton gets beaten too easily in the air by 5'5" Argies.

former Pilgrim stopper Dan Haystead kept his 21st clean sheet of the season for Stamford on Tuesday night. In the same game Liam Adams scored his 11th goal for them.

Stewart contracted for next season.
-
Staying
Stevenson, Abbott, Thanjo, Hemmings, Rollins, Keane, Atkinson, Qaulter, Brogan, Clifton, Tashminga.
Probables
Thompson, Beesley, Middleton, depending on what can be sorted with their parent club's.
Maguire, Vince, Adams, Wafula, McGowan.
Leaving
Smith, Willis, Hare, all the out on loan players, and anyone else that I have not mentioned.

Brogan, Abbott, Thanoj, Hemmings. Reece Thompson if we can get him. That's it for me.

Middleton and Thompson if we can get them
Brogan, Abbott, Thanoj, Hemmings, Clifton, Rollins, Tshimanga, Injured Centre half (forgotten his name) and that’s about it for me
-
Brad McGowan
-
Keane has been as reliable as anyone this season......
-
It's a while since we saw Keane and McGowan in the centre of defence together, l can't even remember what they like together.
Anyone know what they were like ??
-
Yes McGowan - that’s it. I’d also possibly keep Keane but our defence hasn’t been consistent enough
-
They were consistent tonight to keep Harrogate out.
Get in there Pilgrims
-
Think the difficulty might come with trying to keep some of those we would like to, with clubs offering more money and likely closer to home.

Let’s just hope that Chesterfield don’t come calling for a proven non lge manager.

Let’s just hope that Chesterfield don’t come calling for a proven non lge manager.
I don't think CE will go anywhere, and everyone seems to forget that he is under contract with us, and his value would have increased substantially after his performance since being at Boston.
These are silly rumours to start,so let's not go there Grimsby obviously have enough cash to pay us off for him and Chesterfield won't either.
So let's let it end here xx

Contracts at this level gives fans a false sense of security , if a manager or players are wanted by a richer club and they wish to go it is likely they will.

It seems that contracts at any level of football are not worth the paper they are written on.........

Sorry but why even bring up , the Grimsby vacancy was started by the media as speculation but then started the rumour mill off.
I don't see the point of even mentioning it, sorry I don't mean offended but I don't think comments like that give fans a sense of security and just causes doubt.

It’s called a forum, and the last time I checked we still have freedom of speech in this country. Methinks you do take this too seriously. Do you honestly think the Chesterfield chairman is waiting for the Tash to nudge him in his managerial choice.

Yes this is a forum and I would never complain about anyone's freedom of speech and would never gag anyone,
I just don't want to tempt fate in anyway, we have a cracking manager and staff, best we keep them all to ourselves.
Chesterfield could have Housham he would be good manager to bring them down to our league.

As on another thread both Gregg Smith and Jamie Mcguire gone already, wholesale changes I suspect.
-
Could argue that wholesale changes are not required.
Most of the team that played at the end of the season were not here at the start of the season. On 2nd half of the season form we're a playoff side.
-
With so many players available close season, the clear out will be significant. They'll be some good talent out there and CE will hopefully be recruiting well.

I see in the press that Brad McGowan is going under the knife, and vows to come back stronger and fitter, I am surprised that he hasn't had the operation before now.
Will he be here next season who knows, then does Jay require one to?

I agree totally but expect the likes of Rollins, Hemmings or Kabi to look at alternatives maybe at Conference level, be very lucky to secure Middleton and Thompson permanently, and obviously Beesley was recalled by Salford.
Exciting times I think but hope I am wrong on the players above.
-
I think if we are looking to challenge next year we must hold onto hemmings and Tommo - Rollins a bonus obviously although i think Hemmings is total class and much of our creative play comes from him.
Good job by Elliot also giving Hemmings more freedom to play, he did so much better under Elliot than adam. Either way, if we don't retain Hemmings or Tommy average side, forget the play offs next year.

You're saying this, before we've made ANY signings.
-
Craig Elliott is very clear about the type and quality of player that best suits this club at this time. I believe he will be able to bring in the right players to replace any leavers he really wants to keep, but also bolster any position if needed.
So fans, rest easy, have a good break and come back ready for a great journey next season.
-
What we've achieved at the end of the season must make us a much more attractive proposition for new players coming in.
-
I'm happy to trust the choices CE has to make. What will our strike force look like? I actually think Thompson will sign on for a season in preference to a return to Guiseley. Farewell and best wishes to Greg Smith. The ankle injury he got at Trinity was horrendous and I don't think he recovered 100%. My one wish on the retained list is the return of Harry Vince from Matlock. I rate Harry. Will there be a new goalie in the squad? I'm not sure about that one. Looking forward to August but time for a break.
-
There are one or two decent players in Trinity's team worth a look at.

Yes Tash I thought about him, he does score goals and has the experience, sometimes we have lacked that bit of composure in front of goal.
The sort of thing that Adam Boyes does for BPA.
-
Vinno is on loan at Grantham
-
No way will Derby want Ravas to hav another season at Step 2. He'll be in loan somewhere Conf Prem or abroad next season I reckon. Another season in this league will not help his development. Can't see a lot wrong with either Boston keeper myself but don't think Willis will stay if he gets the offer of a number 1 job elsewhere as Stewart is (I think) contracted next season already
-
I suspect Scott Garner and Tom Denton may be available .
Anyone like to see "elbows" in a pilgrim side next season ?
-

Dont want any of them. Denton no and Garner hard working but no better than we have
-
I bet central defenders hate playing against Denton, yes the song Denton, Denton your a *** was sang with some vigour but i would have him in our team any day. Our fast and mobile strike force could play off him, hes also great at defending set peices which we have struggled with.
-
When do we think we will see the official retained list.
I am keeping an eye out for Guisleys.
-
Before the week is out I guess!
Reece Thompson still has a year left at Guiseley, so I doubt he'll be released on a free.
-
I don't think they can afford to keep him, god knows how much they are paying Southwell.
Let's face it why else would he have gone to a club that was relegation fodder before he kicked a ball there.
I think they bust the bank bringing him in, they certainly couldn't afford to strengthen the team after he came in.
-
I don't think they can afford to keep him, god knows how much they are paying Southwell.
£1,500 a week.
-
Blooming hell TTT that is massive wage for a team in this league unless you are Salford.
-
Goal keeper Jaz Singh released by Telford, could be worth a punt.
-
Will Guiseley get a parachute payment on relegation or does that only apply to higher leagues?
-
Blooming hell TTT that is massive wage for a team in this league unless you are Salford.
it's a fact, not conjecture. I have a friend who is also friends with Dayle. Guiseley tried to buy their way to survival, but left it too late, and as it turned out, they also had the wrong managerial team in place. I understand that Dayle's contract is until the end of next season.
-

Nothing.
-

Spoke to him on Saturday and jokingly said we have room here for you Jaz he just smiled, "really".
-
I would prefer Willis to Singh , Jaz seems to have lost it. I though the Telford goalie on Saturday looked average and the supporters aren't too keen yet they and the manager appear to prefer him to Jaz .
-

Probably one of the reasons why Telford have had a poor season, l agree stick with Willis the lad is still learning his trade, let's not forget how long keepers can go on for, look at Bazza.
-
I don’t know if Paul Farnham has been injured this season but has only made 13 appearances for the imps. Has spent the last few weeks bench warming and seems to be number 2/3 since loan goalkeeper brought in. If City get promoted it will be interesting to see their retained list for next season.

a year ago I thought Jaz was a worthy choice, but you have to ask why he's a bench player now. I've been impressed with Willis since he won his place back. I'd stick with him.

He would be a great signing, plenty of experience and he impressed when he was here before.

Of those released, a little surprised that Vince, Tshimanga and Adams where not offered something all young players that have shown potential to be good players. However with Vince and Adams spending most of the time Elliot has been here out on loan then this probably expected.
If all those offered terms accept then we've a good foundation to start from there. I would have thought Elliot will try and get Middleton and Thompson if they are out of contract with parent clubs.
-
Absolutely GUTTED about Kabongo Tshimanga being released. It's a real surprise we couldn't find a role for him.
-
Yes, Pete, that's the stand-out one for me too.
-

Likewise. In Craig we trust, but though Kabongo definitely had a role to play.
-
Not happy about Vince, Kaba, Adams and McGowan.
But this is a manager who head hunt for promotion, what I mean by that is he wants nearly instant success and will find the players that will give him that.
-

I think you're probably right. These aren't instant impact players, but players with *potential*. Is that something we can really afford at this level and on our budget? Arguably not. With Elliott as ambitious as he is, the luxury of retaining a Vince or a Tshimanga in the hope they might turn into something special is probably not available to us. Doesn't mean I'm not gutted though!
-
I agree about Vince but think Kabby may have been a financial decision(although I clearly don’t have access to the accounts). He signed having been released by MK and played some League 2 football (or not due to numbers issues according to a fan I know) at Yeovil last year so may have wanted or already been on a good whack which could be used elsewhere in the squad.
He might also not wanted to do the traveling depending on where he is based so many factors to look at when looking at the list although I am relatively happy and, as has been said, In Craig We Trust.
-
CE gave Kabby a start in the last 3 matches , I guess this was to see what he could achieve over 90 MINS .
The conclusion was probably keeping him he would only be used as a 15min sub . On that basis it is better for both parties that Kabby goes and plies his trade elsewhere .
Like most I enjoyed his goal scoring cameos , I wish him good luck and hope he finds a good club .
-
I think in fairness to Craig, Kaba frustrated him with his lack of ball control, he often gives the ball away and dose not seem to be able to hold the ball up, how many times on Saturday and against Nuneaton did he loose the ball.
The problem is we don't know how much Craig and his staff have tried to improve that part of his game in training.
If you're front men can't hold the ball up and play other players in, you loose the momentum and impetus of attack.
I think us all as fans get frustrated when that happens time and time again.
Clifton was really peed off with him on Saturday, he had a go at him once or twice.

I suppose this goes back to the original point of him being a player of potential rather than him having instant impact or CE being able to trust him in big games, thus being a luxury we can;t afford. He was great to watch and I'm sure he will develop into a good player. Just a shame it won't be with us.
-
I'd rather we kept hold of young players and then sent them out on loan for a couple of months at a time to the league below. If they impress, there's then the option to recall them. And the loan club would contribute towards the wages.
-

I do agree with that TIPS especially these 2, I think they will develop in to real talent's, and what does it say to other young lads in the academy, you will never get a chance to play for the first team.
I just think it's all very sad,or am I missing the point.
Couldn't we have kept them then asked for sponsorship for them.
-
I still think that CE will get another keeper, to win or get in the play offs we will need a keeper who the defenders can trust. IMO he has probably told GW he will be a N0 2 and I can’t see JS staying.

Totally agree with the above. If Smithy could have held it up 2 & just played the attacking midfielders in he would have been some player. It's not the most difficult part of being a striker but it's vital. John Toshack at Liverpool was great in the air, no pace or dribbling skills, yet his ability to hold it, not give it away or be dispossed made him formidable. Ready the imp is a non league version. The most recent we had was Mark Jones. He was quality at it, bit of skill & scorer of spectacular goals, v good in the air 2. His shortfall with us was never there 4 front or back post tap ins. Mr Southwell took care of those though 2 b fare.

He was sub for Telford on Sat.

Joining the Tshimanga debate........whilst he scored some goals that fell to him at close range, he never really seemed to follow a game. He always looked a bit lost, never quite knowing where he should be or where he should be running to.

No thank you.

A manager at last who I think has a clear plan for the future. You can argue about some of those released but I think he has got it spot on.
He must have several players lined up if he can get them. No point in speculation.Lets just let him get on with it and look forward to next season

Listening to him after Saturday's game he said he had two options for the positions he wants to fill if option 1 fails he will go for target two but will not just sign for the sake of signing or panic buy. Have more faith in Craig than I had in Mr Philosophy Murray.
-
Do you know what I am loving? All the speculation on here but everyone is saying let Craig get on with it we all trust him to get the squad together to challenge next year while other clubs, particularly the likes of Stockport , Kiddy, and York the so called big clubs are expressing dis satisfaction with their managers after failing in the play offs or failing to reach them. As you all say we will support our manager to get things right.

In Craig we trust, I love the fact that he said that if he doesn't get Reece he won't get hung up on it.
This shows he has as many of us have said a clear plan and will quickly move on to the next target.

Yes I agree he is qaulity player but l would imagine the budget has been reduced quite a bit, and he probably doesn't want to drop down a league.
I think he will be snapped up quite quickly, but I don't think he will become a pilgrim.
-
Tom Denton is a free agent...
He wouldn't be a popular signing, but he would be great target man, I personally don't know if I would sign him
I would imagine he will go in search of Billy Heath.

More likely his team mate Josh Wilde will come to Jakemans .

Considering we have offered terms to Brogan, maybe not. Wilde had his chance to join us a couple of years ago.

I don't think that will deter CE if he thinks Wilde is a better option .

When Craig arrived here he said that there were enough players in the lower league to put a team together that would compete in this league. I am sure they will all be in his "little black book" so no need to speculate about players in this or the leagues above, leave it to him. UTP.

Tom Denton is a free agent...
He wouldn't be a popular signing, but he would be great target man, I personally don't know if I would sign him
I would imagine he will go in search of Billy Heath.
Yes we hated Denton mainly because he always lifted his game a notch v us & inevitably hit us where it hurts. I thought he was always underated. Unplayable in the air, superb positional & hold up play & decent goals return season on season in CN. Don't think we could afford his signing on fee (reportedly 10 grand at Halifax) never mind his 6--700 quid. a week wages. I agree with Oxo: Craig will bring in younger talent maybe from our league or below.
-
Signings seem to be a bit slow, has anyone heard anything yet?
Have Thompson and Middleton been retained by their respective clubs.
-
So Chorley are having a clear out, Walker and Roscoe have been shown the door so far.

Walkers a cheating clever little sh*t. Reminds me of Jarman. No thanks.
-
Hemmings and Thompson will not be returning to Boston as players next season.
-
I know it’s early days but it’s nearly a month on from end of the season and we couldn’t even put together a 5 a side team

Elliott has already explained to the local press he prefers to wait and be patient rather than jumping in early and paying over the odds. You can disagree with the approach of course, but at least the lack of signings is a deliberate strategy rather than some kind of behind-the-scenes meltdown. I don't think there's any cause for worry.... yet!
-
Probably we will have to go in for a bit of recycling . circa Greene .

This might answer a few questions.

Never really expected to see Hemmings back - if it's true he's off to Salford I doubt anyone could begrudge him the opportunity.
-
Could be Chesterfield
-
signed for Salford...……..

The only problem with late signings is that new players need time to gel together and practise set pieces, etc If we have a poor start to next season, I can foresee the moaning fans to come out of their shells and criticise CE. Who would be a manager?
-
Can’t say I am overly worried yet but we have so much that detracts players from signing for us, finances and geography being the two that stand out. I am sure Craig will get the team sorted I just hope it isn’t substantially weaker than the one we had at the end of the season.
Also think we should scrap all the end of season awards, seems difficult to hold onto the winners of them lol.
-
End of season awards are like manager of the month awards, it all goes tits up.
JK and AH must of had a good idea that neither of them would re sign. Yet they were gushing with appreciation for the club and the loyal supporters, they were already looking forward to the next season. Just a shame they probably knew the next season was not going be at Boston. ;)

I think you are spot on with that comment, AE & JK were probably straight on the phone as they got the chance to their agent, saying get me a good deal away from Boston because I am fantastic as I have got a trophy that says so.
All those young supporters clapping and cheering for those two singing there names, they were both heartless and two faced, knowing that they were going to leave.
Give the awards back I say, as they obviously mean nothing to them.
I will not wish both of them well, why should l they were paid to do a job, which they managed to do in the end but only when Craig arrived, until then they were below average, as the table never lies.
-
You seem to have a chip on your shoulder with every player that leaves, YC69... cut them some slack. We will replace them.
-
I remember when some fans were up in arms when we let Tom Batchelor go. Rest easy, there's millions of players out there. Non league football is awash with availability. Loyalty is diminishing everywhere - be it with the supermarkets we shop at to the insurance companies we use for our Motors. Realign your expectations and you'll be more comfortable. It's a revolving door more than ever. Just thank god we only have to sit back and watch and not be out there trying to recruit players to this Lincolnshire backwater :)

Players don't report back to training for another month(ish). Plenty of time!
-
Player of the season awards relate to the season just gone yc69. That's all. Nowhere does it say in accepting one you've got to stay!
If players move on good luck to em. There's plenty of others and there's more to life than BUFC so try not to take player exits to heart. It'll be ok

I thought I read that training was starting in June - one day a week, increasing to twice weekly in July.]

Think there will soon be some news now the season ticket offer has finished (today). Budget will probably be based on how well initial sales have gone against previous years. Stand by for the influx.

I know it's a chicken and egg situation, but a few exciting early signings might have helped sell more season tickets!

Would this lad be a possibility.

David Newton could find him plenty of work on the quadrant.

I am sure he could be fixed up with someone .

I've just revisited Keane and Hemmings interviews after the Telford game. Two faced is a compliment. Without CE both would be unemployed today. I saw Keane at Southport after a summer with AM and he needed L and R painted on his boots. Hemmings was so lazy under AM he actually put on weight! I am delighted both have gone and I suspect CE hasn't lost any sleep. I am certain their replacements will prove to be inspired signings.

Absolutely spot on brummie! What the hell is the fuss about these two anyway?? I watched Keane closely pre & early last season. He would have struggled to get in an average Sunday morning pub side. Did he end up being one of Murray's better signings NO, Craig Elliot put his boot up his are & said f***** earn your wages, listen to what I say or go! Well he's gone & enjoy yourself on the hatters bench.
Hemmings? Take the 11/12 pens out of the equation & believe me your left with a luxury lightweight. Can he dribble past a man No, has he got pace No, is he about as much use as St Juste last yr Yes. Well done CE, get 2 in with a lot more 2 offer than those 2 did.
Just wondering Ken; was last season the most penalties we've evet had in the league?

Echo your points about Hemmings , In CE post match interviews he often mentioned having to give Hemmings a push to produce .
Maybe he will not be too sad to see him go .

Josh Wilde will indeed come to Jakemans next season, but it'll be as an Alfreton player.

A shame , still can,t deprieve Billy of all the best players after his failing to attract Natham .

For anyone who hasn't seem it - this is a really interesting interview with Nathan Arnold on his move to Boston and his football career in general.

I think it's quite sad that a manager like Billy Heath can only attract players that he has had before, and if you look at the player's they will hold no surprises on the pitch to anyone in this league.
Billy stuck with what he knows at Halifax who had a much bigger budget than Alferton can supply him with, and in the end it did him no good and ended up with him being sacked.
Denton is not anywhere as good as he was, and Pidge just got into a stupid I am harder than you battle, and lost to elbows.
Chester have gone part time this season, that will be for financial reasons, so I don't see them as a threat at all.

He speaks very well, and is clearly a thoughtful character. I wish him luck.
