The B-Ark / Midweek games on Tuesdays
« on: June 24, 2009, 12:17:01 PM »
I see that Boston United will now be playing their home midweek games on Tuesday nights instead of Wednesdays.

http://www.bufc.co.uk/article/2704265/Day-change-for-midweek-clashes

It looks like it makes sense from a logistical point of view now that the club is part-time.

Wasn't Wednesday originally chosen because Tuesday night was bingo night at the Gliderdrome? Is bingo still going on there? If it is, perhaps the change is also a dig at the Malkinsons for their outrageous rent claims on York Street!

My mother-in-law in South Wales went for a Tiscali package just before Christmas.

It was broadband, line rental, inclusive weekend UK calls and she kept her existing phone number. It was about £15 / month and it has been working fine.

I presume it works in Boston as there are a few Tiscali accounts registered on here!

Wher did Ray Carling finish?

Did you beat him?

DS Ray Carling finished in 01:01:00 in 2656, so quite a respectable time.

BBC presenter Harry Gration finished in 01:07:16 in 4328

Former Leeds United legend Eddie Gray finished a couple of minutes ahead of me in 00:47:23 in 408th - not bad for a 61 year old!

Nell McAndrew finished in 00:41:54 in 116th - she is one fit model!

I seem to remember something similar happening with the old Maidstone United in their last days in Division 4. Weren't they included in the fixtures for the 1992–93 season, but folded after postponing their first match?

I also seem to remember one of the proposed rescue plans for them was a merger with some side called Newcastle Blue Star!

The official results are now in:

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/leeds10k/VIDEO-AND-FULL-RESULTS-And.5386542.jp

I finished in 629th position in 49:16. That's about 3 minutes quicker than last year and 300 places higher. A couple more years and I'll be winning it!  8)

I was ahead of most of the police and thrashed Leeds Rhinos legend Barry McDermott! Professional rugby players are clearly not as fit as fifty year old transport planners! Surprisingly I seem to have finished in front of quite a few proper athletes from running clubs.

It was great fun with a great atmosphere and lots of support lining the route to keep us all going. I didn't spot any other Boston replica shirts this year, so was I the only one?

Well I did it. It was hot again but I think I knocked about three minutes off last year's time to finish in just under 50 mins.

Last year I was beaten by a banana, this year it was a running nun!

Many, many thanks to everyone who has sponsored me, and it's not too late to donate. Just go to:

Also any ideas when the new strip will be ready to buy, quite fancy having a new one this year.  Up the Pilgrims!!!  :)

I was hoping to get one to wear on my run around Leeds tomorrow, but unfortunately Craig tells me they won't be available until about 6th July - so I'll be running in the same strip as last year.  8)

2 Gateshead
3 AFC Wimbledon
4 Chelmsford City
5 Steeton
6 Boston United

Look like they do a half-decent programme. Nice covers anyway.

The B-Ark / Newcastle Blue Star
« on: June 19, 2009, 12:22:05 PM »
Has anyone heard anything lately about whether Newcastle Blue Star are still going?

The FA allocations put them in the Unibond Premier with us and according to our O/S they are one of the teams that are being officially welcomed into the Premier Division at the Unibond League AGM in Blackpool on Saturday.

But there's been nothing on their web site since 16th May when they said if they didn't find someone to pump in large sums of money then the club would cease to exist.

So are we going to be a team short next season, or have they sorted things out?

Done !

Good luck ...

Many thanks.

I've just noticed that some crazy people from the Dubai office of the company I work for took part in the Wadi Bih relay race in Dubai back in February. A 75km "dash" along the wadi bed, running as high as 1000m. It was a team relay with sections run by each of the five team members in turn. They claim that the weather was pleasantly cool despite a strong shamal. I suspect that it was still hotter than it will be in Leeds on Sunday!

Only a week to go so get that sponsorship money in before you forget.  ;D

I did a practice 10km run this morning, but it was too hot and I was rather slow.  :(

I hope it cools down a bit next weekend.

Are any other Boston fans amongst the 11,000?

The B-Ark / Top Gear Challenge
« on: June 13, 2009, 10:19:30 PM »
You may remember that on the way to the Cammel Laird game at the end of the season I came across the Tornado steam engine at Grantham station, so I took a few snaps and put them on the Impstalk forum.

http://www.impstalk.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4442.0

Well I heard it was a Top Gear challenge and when I did a bit of googling on the Monday morning I found a pic of Jeremy Clarkson arriving in Edinburgh covered in soot in the fireman's outfit and then I twigged that it was him in one of my photos at Grantham!

The new season of Top Gear starts next Sunday, so I'll be looking out for the challenge. The Radio Times for next week's show says:

Sunday 21 June
8:00pm - 9:00pm
BBC2

"Motoring news and views. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May compete in an epic London-to-Edinburgh race, setting out to discover what Top Gear might have been like 60 years ago. James grabs a gorgeous old Jaguar XK120 sports car, while Richard chooses to torture himself on the Vincent Black Shadow motorbike, and Jeremy takes the Tornado, a new steam train built to the blueprints used to create some of Britain's finest locomotives in the heyday of the railways."

The rumour on the web was that May won it in the Jag!

Joachim is past it. He only scored 8 goals in 39 appearances for King's Lynn last season. That's about as good as Jon Froggatt was for us. Jon Rowan was twice as good with 16 in 37 and I dare say he would be a lot cheaper than Joachim.
