On paper Histon were there for the taking, but it didn't really pan out that way. The pitch wasn't as bad as expected, but there was some wind.
The early goal was exactly as Dennis wanted/told Connor to deliver it - from a set piece near the half way line, swinging from right to left where Pidge headed on and Newsh poked home. This should have been the omen for the heavens to open and goals galore to come, but alas this was not to be.
I have been impressed by our new look midfield in recent games, but this game they were completely over-run. We very rarely won any of the 2nd balls from punts upfield and did alot of chasing. The oposition had a long throw specialist, which seemed to be a bit of a surprise to our defense and they prised out a few chances through that. Their 'big man' upfront was prety ineffective, as they never really got the ball to his feet which allowed our centre-backs to deal with it.
SWD's introduction did change the game, and gave Miller more room on the right. This allowed him to create a couple of good opportunities that his selfish streak caused him to shoot, when a pass to SWD would have been a better option.
The difference was when SWD found himslef in space 25 yards out, having made space against the last man it was finished with aplomb into the bottom corner.
Agree that the penalty decision was very soft (like alot of other refereeing decisions), as Garner was leaning on his man.
Overall a solid performance against a youthful Histon side infront of a crowd of 353, and half of those must have been Boston fans.
Also spoke to a guy there who was scouting Pidge and Garner, but was more impressed by the performance of Vince.
