Title: Congratulations to Mark Newsham
Post by: Seenbetter on December 28, 2013, 04:26:54 PM
Must be worth it's own entry.
!00 goals for Boston United. Well done Mark. Shame it couldn't have been at a home game where you would have got the applause such an achievement deserves. Hopefully you will get a great welcome at the next home game.

If Hortin was correct this afternoon then yes Imps do pay silly money .   According to him some of the first team players are on £250 a week or less. 8)

Well done to Marc.

Can't see him going to Lincoln.  They seem to be in free fall whereas we have a good chance of the playoffs this season.
Lincoln have no money and will have difficulty attracting players to stop what looks increasingly like a relegation battle.

Heard via a reliable source, they have never been wrong with info in the past (no one with any United connections by the way before wrong conclusion is jumped too :) )

One of the best strikers in the clubs history! Can't see him going to Lincoln unless he wants a relegation battle! More chance of Simmo getting the sack after the NY day match!!!!

Lincoln have no money so can't see them paying a transfer fee for any player - Newsham is under contract.

Lincoln set to receive transfer fee from Scunthorpe for Andrew Boyce in January

Might free up a little money to buy a striker

 ;D

Boyce came from us (and a share of the fee will be for us)

What other clubs has Newsham played for?

Perhaps he didn't want to play for other clubs. Perhaps at Boston he felt appreciated, got job satisfaction and his dad liked to sit with a better class of supporter.

Just got to add my congratulations to the Newsh for his century, (but rather feel he should pass on penalty duties to someone else!) really great achievement and long may it continue

He is our penalty taker and should stay so, however it's not the first one he's missed deep into added time to salvage a draw. BPA away last season?

Why do we have to have just one designated penalty taker? If we've aspirations of the play-offs then it's not unrealistic to expect that four or five different players may need to take crucial spot-kicks later in the season. Isn't there an argument for sharing the responsibilities around and giving several players the experience / practice?

Newsham has missed a couple, both of which cost us points. I wouldn't want to dismiss the idea of him taking another penalty again for us ever again, but I can'r see the harm in taking the pressure away from him in the short term and letting others step up. We're not short of other candidates. Weir-Daley scored one with the minimum of fuss against Stafford (when Newsham wasn't playing), and I'm pretty sure Miller converted a few penalties for Stamford last season. (OK, Weir-Daley and Miller weren't options at Telford). Then there's Ian Ross. With his ability from corner kicks and free kicks, surely he'd be reliable from the penalty spot?

Surely anyone can run up and whack a football hard down the middle whilst keeping it below the crossbar

You'd think so Josh, but the experience of the Supporters Trust 5 a side team in the tournament before the final league game at Wrexham shows this isn't the case.

We lost two penalty shoot-outs (we were the English team as someone later wittily pointed out) and I certainly wasn't the only person not to score. Indeed I stand to be corrected by such as MNH or Daniel Lambert, but I believe the only player not to miss was Pete B, mainly because he didn't take one in the first place.

Listening to newsh video interview on the official site. He seems to really enjoy playing for us and say he wants to score many more goals. I really hope he is here for a few more years yet. True bufc legend.
