The end of football as we know it?
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:01:01 PM »
The chief executive of the League Managers Association has warned that owners of a number of Premier League clubs are talking about trying to scrap promotion and relegation in order to safeguard their investments.

"There are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League," said Richard Bevan. "If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen."

He said he understood that talks had taken place among "American owners and some of the Asian owners as well".

With Stan Kroenke's move to become the majority owner of Arsenal in the summer, the north London club joined Manchester United, Liverpool, Sunderland and Aston Villa in American hands.

Premierwhat? eh? Is that the one Grimsby play in?
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

Personally I think this would be the worst ever decision in football if this actually happened. There are still clubs in LEAGUE1 such as Southampton and Leeds last year and Charlton this year who surely have aspirations of one day being top flight clubs aggain. Personally I find the relegation battle just as interesting as the race for the title.

Not if he was about to retire and was offered a whack to stay quiet? As for the like of Leeds, Southampton etc.  Those at the time with the money to join the rebel league would gain entry at the expense of the West Brom and Wigans

Stupid Yank idea, tell em to naff off and look elsewhere

A very BAD idea indeed  >:(  You might as well put all the clubs into a hat , draw them out and decide the title that way.

A bit like the Scottish 3rd Division, I don't think that the lowest club gets relegated from that.
