« on: February 03, 2012, 02:09:07 PM »
For starters, is the match likely to be on ? Quite a few games already called off for tomorrow.

surely they should call it off now due to the forecast being heavy snow for 4pm ish. Surely its better for the safety of both sets of supporters, no one wants to drive in hazardous driving conditions

I haven't seen the forecast yet. But I'm not that far from Hinckley as the crow flies. As things stand currently, my lawn would pass a pitch inspection.

Another hour or so until the pitch inspection, but I'm less confident now about the game going ahead than I was last night. This is what grass looks like approximately 20 miles from Hinckley ...

But the sky is blue and the sun is out, so never say never...

Our postponement has just been mentioned on Test Match Special - shame Aggers wasn't totally sure which sport it was...

It is interesting though how conditions can change relatively quickly.

This is the photo I posted earlier of a patch of grass near my house, which is approximately 20 miles from Hinckley...

And this is the same patch of grass taken a few minutes ago, which would have been 30 minutes into the first half:-

Officials do need to make decisions early on account of travelling players and supporters. There's nothing more frustrating than travelling to an away game and then finding it is off. But with the benefit of hindsight I do think conditions would now be playable. Should the game have gone ahead?
