David Newton has since added stadium shall cost approx £5m, including £2m funding and around £3m from enabling development.
-
Well .all that was expected..still a way to go by the looks . 3 sided as such and all stand excepting main stand.
No mention how many seats..
Pity the Malks couldn't be kept onside to build a big entertainment facility next door ..
-
Have to presume that you didn't make it tonight Father Ted Please take time to look closely at what is proposed and stop guessing, there are some 1700 seats do you think that may be enough to start with? There are four stands, oh why am I bothering you will be wanting your toenails cutting for you next.
-
I was impressed by the forward planning of the project. I think it was Mr Newton who said there would be room available in the seated section for more seats to be added at a later time to bring the ground up to higher league status should they ever be needed.
I was surprised when he declared that the water costs alone for York Street are around £10000.
He also gave good reason for not staying at York Street, apparently the cost of maintaining and running the ground would make it unsustainable.
Dennis Green summed it up for me when he used the word Inspirational.
Long way to go but I think the right people are in charge to get the job done.
-
So the new stadium is to the east of the A16, not between the A16 and Chain Bridge road. The major development between the A16 and Chain Bridge road appears to incorporate a "marina". Alongside the Forty Foot?
http://thequadrantboston.co.uk/the-project/q2/
'aint artists impressions and CGI imaging wonderful?
-
let the protests begin, looking at the plan it looks like the stadium is to the east of the A16, with the housing development to the west. Will there be plenty of parking? Will the council support such a major Development? Can we get funding from any organisations?
I was not at the meeting last night, perhaps these questions were answered. If they have been could someone please post, thanks.
-
Unfortunately couldnt make the meeting so may be a simple answer to this. I see there is mention of a 3G pitch which I can understand why. If this is for the main pitch am I right in thinking that 3G pitches come with exclusions regarding promotion/FA Cup etc.

It has a All weather pitch to hire out and community sports all in the main stand there is the new Pilgrim lounge and a banqueting suite. With classrooms and hospitality boxes.
There are also loads of parking spaces it's all on the website.

I think we should all congratulate the chairman and his team for what looks like a tremendous plan for the future. I dread to think where we would be without DN as chairman.
I am sure things on the plan will be tweaked and added to, but what an opportunity to develop something positive for the town and club.
Andy made reference on a different thread about involving the fans, I understand there is to be a consutation workshop for us on Wed 27 Nov for first input.
I just hope the Boston Council are on board with the wider plan and plans for the football club.
-
Hope this helps Dipdodah.
On the plan there are green sections (not the green all weather pitch or the stadium pitch) that are around the stadium that will be used for car parking but they have not been marked out yet because the car park layout has yet to be finalised but I think there will be room for about 300 cars.
I got the impression that the local and county councils have been involved already and things look positive in that area.
As for funding, I think there is about £5.000,000 that could be tapped in varying forms of grants from development funds at both county and national levels. It would leave about £500,000 to be found by other means.
Obviously a lot of work and negotiating to do yet and some things probably going on behind the scenes that need to be kept secret for business reasons but things sounded positive.
One point that was emphasised at the meeting was this, if things don't go well and the club is not relocated by the time the current lease expires then it will almost certainly be Goodnight Boston United.
If you go to www.thequadrantboston.co.uk it will probably answer most of you questions.

As oxo says stop guessing and looking for negatives . 1700 seats with terraces constructed to allow easy conversion to seating , this opposed to the 1300 seats at YS .
Plenty of space at York St for Malkies to expand when Bufc leave , thankfully the club will be clear of all ties with that family then .
It is only just beginning to emerge to many that we have moved into a new era with Cheastnuts at the helm , only last night did many realise what they have achieved already and this is the most exciting period fo the TOWN and the football team it the 65 years I have supported it .
-
Well said GHM. Very exciting project for the club and town as a whole. Now is the time for us the supporters to really support the chestnuts in making this a reality. We can't sit back and expect chestnut to do all the hard work. Come on lets get behind the club and all come together as one for the good of the whole community.

Your right Dave without Newton we would not have a club today , without the council and public backing for these plans we will not have a football club in 5 years time .
In all honesty looking at what Chestnuts have achieved already with acadamy etc ,and their vast knowledge in construction and business I don,t think any advice will be required from us fans .
-
Thanks GHM answered all I needed to know :D

No it did,nt Dippy , I overlooked "easy access to Fosdyke " :dan

Looks impressive. I await the NIMBYs.
-
I suppose if I had a great big complex in my back garden I would object, and so would 90% of posters on here. Where ever it was built people would object.
-
looks like the North Stand will be the new 'Town End'? Hope the design enhances the acoustic effect to project the 'home' crowd noise. Should incorporate noise damping design in the away section.

removing the roof should do it!!!!
-
I'm a little disappointing myself, some joker put the red arrows in but no Stump! :D
p.s. Great work by the chairman to get us this far, if he builds us a new stadium I might stretch to buying him a pint.
-
I know it's Very early days yet but just a few observations about the proposed new stadium.
The preferred orientation of a football stadium is a few degrees left of North. So because the prevailing winds and rain tend to come from the South West the best end for standing home supporters would be the South stand, so would that make them the Kirton Enders. The prevailing winds etc makes the West stand the obvious choice for seating and I think the best section to get out of the wind would be the seats North of the centre line.
My second observation is that we will no longer be able to whisper abuse to the linesmen because as I see it the gap between the foreward most point at which a spectator can stand to the edge of the pitch is 2.65 metres (approx' 8ft 10inches ) away with a further gap of 2.75 metres (approx' 9ft 2inches ) from the edge of the pitch to the touch line, a total gap of about 18ft. If they could reduce that gap to about 8ft and moved the buildings in a bit there would be more parking space available outside the ground. :D
Well that's just wasted 20 minutes.
Ps Any chance of incorporating a fishing lake nearby so a few of us could make a really good day of it.
-
What would the new stands be called? May I suggest they be named after ( in my opinion ) the four best managers ever to manage our little team. In no particular order, Jim Smith, Don Donavan, Howard Wilkinson and Arthur Mann. We could name the stadium The Newton Kempster Stadium, the toilets could be called larva flow. ;)
-
Bastock's Bar...
-
Conte's Corner.
-
Wyberton has got a castle near to the ground so how about The Castle Ground.
-

Very dubious provenance for a couple of old mounds in a field......spoken by a Wybertonian.
-
Just trying to put Wyberton on the map just like the castle is, have to agree with you though.
-
Whatever or whoever else is commemorated in naming stands, bars, etc., some recognition should go to Ray Middleton. 6-1 at Derby County still stands as our greatest achievement.
-
If one of the rooms isn't sponsored and called the Jakemans Suite, then they are wasting everybody's time.
-
Surely the road leading to the stadium will require naming? Wilkinson Way? Smith Street?
-
Greene Street has a good ring to it :)
-
New York Street!

its important that all fans who want this to succeed register their interest at the above.
Few of us can afford to seriously get involved (ie throw £'s at it) BUT we can show our support.
-
I spoke to Neil last night and he said that he thought the presentation to the Council went very well.
But as Phil says above we as supporters still need to support this.

Absolutely right Cookie. I've done my bit. Some have been abrupt with my pro Chestnut stance, I will stand by my view of David et al. :)
The future looks great. Thanks David. :)

this is important....don't think "someone else will do it" it really needs our backing.
Those against will make much more noise than those for it!

Maybe we ought to start a new thread, just so that those of us that have filled in the questionnaire can be counted, and it might encourage more to do it?

Fantastically inaccurate BBC reporting. Why start with the Administration line? and surely that stadium isn't going to cost £100 million alone?
"Boston's £100 million regeneration project".... which includes a new football stadium is more the story.

Yes, where exactly is York Road?
-
What an outrageous article putting it the minds of people that the new stadium will cost £100m. Apart from a mention of jobs being created no mention of the many positives for the town of Boston and it's communities eg. 11000 people per month benefiting from the various courses and activities provided by the club or, as part of the development, the start of the much needed relief road and possible bypass etc.
The article draws to attention that the club went into administration with a link to the story of the whole sorry affair with all it's negatives. It mentions the club "Moving out of York Road" (almost got it right) but not why this is necessary.
I have my suspicions who produced this anti Boston dross at the BBC News Lincolnshire and it is time the people of Boston and not just us fans let them know in no uncertain terms we will not take this lying down although I don't think they will take up the challenge.
-
It is a truly ridiculous article. Still what more so we expect from them

Very lazy journalism, it's an article written by someone who really couldn't be bothered to do their home work.
It is also quite a damaging article with many
Inaccuracies.
Who do I contact to tell them so?

I thought similar beefpilgrim, lazy and serves no help to the current situation.
On that is there an age minimum for completing the form in? I've a couple of mini pilgrims now, probably get away with the 20 month old but the 5 day old would be pushing it! ;)

Congratulations. Wondered why you weren't at Bradford. ;D
-
Thanks Ken, would have been a bit of a tough one to get away with!
-
There is no mention as to who will own the stadium? Will the football club still be a tenant of the Newton family, rather than a tenant of the Malkinson family?
Whatever happens the new asset that will be the new Football Ground needs to be a separate legal entity from Boston United FC and ideally incorporated in the balance sheet of a not for profit/mutual community organisation with independent trustees.
Imagine if Evans and Sotnick had got their grubby hands on York Street?

I wouldn't bother - they are only interested in making sure they get their facts right about Lincoln City
-
At the forum Newton mentioned about the stadium being held in a community group and a 199 year lease to the football club at a fraction of the current stadiums rent.
-
Thank you Shauneyg. Did you get that in writing? What fraction of the current rent? 9/10 0r 19/20 ?
-
Why don't you write to Mr Newton SP and ask him those questions then you could post his reply on here for us all to see instead of just trying to stir the sh#t.

Or pop and see him at a game. I'm sure he would be open to talk about something he has been working on for years.

I think its a valid point by SP to be honest. We need to know who's hands the club will be in when David Newton finally walks away.

At a guess I would say Neil Kempsters as he is David's "right-hand man" and also the BUFC supporter of the two!! But I may be wrong - the wife says I usually am.

Help design new United stadium
Boston United are holding a ‘stadium design workshop’ on Wednesday evening in The Pilgrim Lounge.
WE WANT YOUR VIEWS so please come along and view the plans for the new stadium, which is planned to be built at The Quadrant.
The architects for the new stadium will be present to explain the rationale behind the stadium design, alongside the directors of Boston United. Chairman David Newton told bufc.co.uk: "Only by working together can we build a new home for Boston United that will meet everyone’s needs and aspirations.
"We hope as many supporters as possible will join us in what will be a real ‘hands on’ event. Supporters will get the opportunity to get a pen out, scribble on our plans and drawings and suggest any changes that they think should be made to ensure that we deliver a great fans experience at the new stadium."
The workshop starts at 7.00pm.
For further details on the development at The Quadrant, please visit www.thequadrantboston.co.uk.

I think its a valid point by SP to be honest. We need to know who's hands the club will be in when David Newton finally walks away.
Why? I wonder how many fans of any football clubs will know who there owners will be in 5 years time. As fans all we can hope is that it is some one who will run the club in a sustainable manner. Mr Newton is a very shrewd business man but I doubt even he knows what or who will be around to run the club in 5 years.
-
The answer clearly is that at this time nobody knows who will be running the club however, Mr Newton has expressed in the past that he wants to hand the club over to the fans of Boston United and he hoped that business people who are fans would step forward. I would certainly hope that will be the case as certainly it will need fans with a business acumen as well as ordinary supporters who would also hold positions on the board to ensure the club is run the way Mr Newton and Mr Kempster have and are putting it together ie, A true community club building on all the great work already being carried out, and run in a sustainable way. Boston United can and should be at the centre of all that is good about Boston and the surrounding areas and supporters should be thinking about how they can get involved to make this happen. Try and get to the workshop on Wednesday and ask them how you can get involved and don't be afraid to ask questions and make suggestions, it is a great opportunity to find things out yourselves and will certainly allow you to decide which posts on here are worth giving time to.

What's that old saying about being designed by a committee.? I've been involved with one or two of those.
