I'm off to Elland Road on Saturday.

Not for a reunion with the infamous former Boston United manager though. Leeds United are down in London playing Charlton so with a bit of luck I'll be long gone by the time they get back.

Elland Road is hosting the Yorkshire Veterans' Athletic Association Awards Dinner and somehow I've managed to finish in 2nd place in my age category in their Grand Prix series of races, so I get to pick up a nice little running trophy. I can pretend I'm a proper athlete for a couple of hours.

My dad was the club's fitness trainer for a few days when Ray Middleton was manager. He was asked to take the players out running to improve their fitness levels. Didn't last long though. Think he was too quick for them.

A few jobs on the car.

• sorting out why my indicators only work sporadically - looking at the steering column switch as the major culprit as the hazards work fine.
• resealing the windscreen to stop rain coming in
• gluing the door seals back together - impossible to find replacements :-(

Glossop v Ossett Town for me and a couple others in the NPL Div 1 North. Glossop will be balmy at this time of year.

Then back the week after where hopefully we get close to 1400 just before Xmas, though of course, its a notorious week for low crowds. Stockport won't exactly bring too many either the run they're on.

A different kind of weekend. Going with the other half to see Simply Red at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, and then on Sunday its a visit to the Sheffield Arena to see Sheffield Steelers v Belfast Giants Ice Hockey match.
