Courtney Pitt

Fantastic goal

Last Saturday's late but deserved victory over Scunthorpe United proved to be a great finish to a very difficult week both in footballing and personal terms. We dominated Scunthorpe for long periods and got our rewards with two fantastic goals from Courtney Pitt and Matt O'Halloran. Since our win last Saturday I have heard how Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws felt his team dominated the second half of the game. In my opinion Brian must have been at a different game and a visit to the opticians is a must for him.

Our Reserves were in action last night and a couple of places are still up for grabs as we head to Southend this Friday night. We know we will face another team in good form and our task will be difficult, but every game is like that when you have aspirations of being in the play-offs at the end of this season. Everyone at Boston United is working very hard and pulling in the same direction. Our supporters, as always, have played a large part in that success, and never more so than in the last half-hour against Scunthorpe.

Much was written in the national press last weekend about whether Paul Gascoigne was about to leave us or not. What I do know is that Gazza is news whatever is written, and I have learned enough in his short time with us to ignore it all until Paul tells me something has changed. Like all my players he gets frustrated when he is not selected, but if he was not I would then be worried. I pick all my teams purely on merit and I will not change.

On a personal front, I have received several hundred messages of support for my daughter. I regard this as a family matter, so all I will ask is that people respect that view. My daughter's fight is a tough one but definitely one she will win.

Southend will be difficult on Friday night, but a good result will set us up for a huge match against Wycombe Wanderers next week. Like Scunthorpe, they will be a force this season but these games are what it is all about.
