Bourne Town 2-2 Pilgrims

Nationwide Conference

by Craig Singleton

A Boston United XI drew 2-2 at Bourne Town last night in a friendly clash. The Pilgrims' team was made up of first-teamers, academy youngsters and trialists. Boston went ahead on 17 minutes when Andrew STANHOPE fired home a rebound effort after Anthony Elding's shot had been parried from a Paul Fewings cross. Bourne were soon level, with Darren FOGG heading home Neil Thorpe's free-kick on 21 minutes. That was the way it stayed until seven minutes before the interval when Micky NUTTELL rammed the ball home after Jason Minett's cross was deflected off a post.

After the break, six newcomers were introduced, including three players on trial - Simon Gould, Michael Stanton and Ainsley Neckles. Being replaced was another of the trialists, Mark Thompson, formerly of Boston Town. It looked like Boston were going to hold out for a win, but up popped John MORTON on 87 minutes with a low shot past Nick Conroy to secure a draw for the Wakes. The fog descended in the second half with visibility drastically reduced meaning chances were few and far between.
