Lorne Stewart Barrowby 2-2 Reserves

Lincolnshire League

Report by Colin Woodcock

United Reserves maintained their unbeaten record in the Lincs League with an inauspicicious draw at Barrowby on Saturday. The condition of the pitch didn't lend itself to United's passing game, but they raced into a 2-0 lead with goals in the first minute from Leigh TAYLOR and in the 20th minute from Dane THORNTON. However, Barrowby's no-nonsense physical approach and up and under style was causing them problems, and they badly missed the experience of Steve Appleby, who has returned to Spalding for a second loan period. And Barrowby pulled a goal back five minutes before the break, Gary Pawson slicing the ball into his own net, before disaster struck in the last minute of the half, United's defence presenting Barrowby with a free header to level the scores.

United dominated play in the second half, but it was Barrowby who had the best chances and only good work by United keeper Lee Crew and poor finishing kept the scores level. When the final whistle went, a subdued John Luffman said: "To come from two goals down and get a draw away, you'd be happy. But when you are top of the league and 2-0 up, you should really take all three points. We badly missed Steve Appleby today, but at the end of the day the young lads have got to stand up and be counted at this stage of the season. With our nearest challengers winning, the next two games at Sleaford and Wyberton are massive games, and the lads will need to be up for them."
