Darlington 1-0 Pilgrims

Avon Insurance League

by Craig Singleton

It was a tale of two penalties as Boston United Reserves slipped to defeat on Wednesday evening. The Pilgrims' second string tumbled to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Darlington's Reserves in an Avon Insurance League Division One East fixture played at the Feethams. Quakers striker Mark CONVERY netted from the spot ten minutes into the second half to put his side in front before Peter Costello saw a penalty saved by Darlington keeper Chris Porter moments later after David Town has been felled in the area.

Both sides contributed to an entertaining match although there was little in the way of goalmouth action. Boston utilised three trialists from Hartlepool United. Youngsters Stephen Flockett, Stephen Manson and Colin McKenzie all figured after being told that they are being released by the Victoria Park outfit ahead of their impending promotion to Division Two. Frenchman Olivier Brassart again lined-up for Boston. The midfielder is currently on the books of Conference side Scarborough and made his second appearance, following on from last Monday's win over Scunthorpe United.
