Darlington 1-3 Pilgrims

Pontins Holiday League

by Craig Singleton

A brace of goals from Andy White helped propel Boston United Reserves to an impressive away victory on Wednesday evening. The on-loan Mansfield frontman was on target twice, along with defender Lee Beevers, as the Pilgrims defeated Darlington 3-1. Played in the sparsely-populated Reynolds Arena, Boston raced into a 3-0 lead before the hosts netted a late consolation. White put Boston 2-0 up at half-time with two well-taken goals. And then, Beevers got on the end of a free-kick to notch number three.

Boston used a 3-4-3 formation against a solid Darlington outfit, who included veteran ex-Middlesbrough and Sunderland man Neil Maddison at centre-back. Trial quintet Chris Hogg, Andrew Leeson, Clark Smith, Scott Brough and Adebayo Akinfenwa all appeared and did well, with Hogg and Akinfenwa looking particularly lively. Ipswich defender Hogg lined up in the back three, alongside Beevers and Paul Ellender, while Nigerian frontman Akinfenwa played in a strike trio with Peter Duffield and White. There were also run-outs for Centre of Excellence youngsters Lloyd Freeman, Jay Mahoney and Stuart King

United team: Croudson, Leeson, Beevers (King), Freeman (Mahoney), Hogg, Ellender, Duffield, Clarke, White, Akinfenwa, Brough (Smith). Subs (not used): L Thompson, Angel.
