Epworth Town 1-2 Reserves

Lincolnshire League

Report by Colin Woodcock

United made the long journey to Epworth knowing full well that the home side were formidable opponents on their own ground and that they had yet to concede a goal this season. As it happened, it turned out to be a very one-sided affair with Epworth not managing an effort at goal of any account during the ninety minutes, save for their goal which resulted from a major faux-pas by the usually reliable Nick Maddison. United raced into a two goal lead inside the first twenty minutes, the first on the quarter hour from Ricky SOUTHWELL, who nodded home a Walters cross and the second from Steve APPLEBY, who waltzed through from the half-way line and rounded the keeper. Certainly the latter's return to fitness is well underway and at this level, he is in a class of his own.

After the break, United continued to dominate and miss numerous chances before handing Epworth a lifeline when Nick Maddison's attempt at dribbling round an opposing forward from a pass back saw him dispossessed, allowing Epworth to pull a goal back. However this proved a minor setback and United ran out comfortable winners.
